Eating Healthy -- Ice Cream Without Regrets

Picture this. It's a hot, sunny day. You're hungry and just want to eat something cold and creamy. So what do you do? You go to the freezer and pull out that plastic pail with a cold metal handle. You think to yourself, "I'll just have a little bit". But before you know it - your bowl is heaping with the stuff. Then right before you put the lid back on the pail, you take one more scoop and put it straight into your mouth.

Does that sound familiar to you? Have you ever looked at the ingredients in ice cream? You would think it should be as simple as cream and sugar, right? Why do so many companies use high fructose corn syrup? Or carrageenan? Or Mono and Diglycerides?

It turns out; you're basically eating a bowl full of chemicals. If you knew that ahead of time, would you still try to cool off with that stuff? Would you give those chemicals to your children? What are your options?

My personal opinion: Buy yourself an Ice Cream Maker. Find one that will work for you. I have one that has a frozen bucket that just goes in the freezer. No ice or salt required. It only takes about 20 minutes to make the ice cream. Buying an ice cream maker could be one of the best investments that you make for your health, and your kitchen. You can make any flavor you want; you can use your own ingredients, it tastes great; and you're kids will love to watch it being made!

My favorite recipe is the one that came from my ice cream maker's manual. There are only four simple ingredients: milk, sugar, half and half, and vanilla. Simple.

To make it as healthy as possible, I used organic, non-homogenized milk, organic evaporated cane juice, organic half and half, and lastly organic vanilla. My family loves the ice cream that I make. We have it several times a week. I enjoy it with some fruit on top or even a little peanut butter on the side!

I never have to worry about my kids eating a lot of it, because I am happy with every ingredient in there. I know the ice cream they are eating for their bed time snack is healthy and delicious. It makes me happy to know that they are not being poisoned with any chemicals from store bought ice cream. I give them the best that I can give them.

As always, when cooking use the best ingredients you can afford. Buy organic whenever possible. Do your best to keep those nasty toxins out of your diet. Use raw and unprocessed whenever possible. Eat healthy, feel healthy, be healthy. Enjoy life.
