San Lorenzo is a Fifteenth Century Basilica located in central Florence, just a short walk northwest of the Duomo, the Florence Cathedral. You should definitely visit this beautiful building and the surroundings. You may want to consider a hotel in this neighborhood that tends to be less expensive than if you are right around the Cathedral. You may find the short extra walk well worth your while. Some of the Antica Dimora Firenze's rooms offer a private terrace. This hotel has a privileged relationship with Marchese Antinori, a great Italian winemaker in the Chianti region of Tuscany. You can combine your Florence vacation with a visit to the medieval village of Badia a Passignano that belongs to the Antinori family. The village hosts a famous restaurant with an exceptional wine cellar. Or you can visit Procacci, a Florentine café and wine bar which is famous for its truffle sandwiches. The Hotel Casci is located in a Fourteenth Century Palace. This hotel has been in business since 1926 and is proud to be the first hotel in Florence providing hot and cold water in all rooms. The Il Guelfo Bianco is located in a Fifteenth Century building. One of its special features is a great collection of modern art. If you like the older stuff you need only stroll a bit to the Galleria dell'Accademia, which is home to Michelangelo's David and a whole lot more.
