Fun Family Activities and Games For Easter - Part I

Easter is a terrific time of year; one everyone can enjoy. Children get excited about the food and fun and adults can get together to eat and visit. Planning a few good activities can really add to the fun that kids will have during the Easter holiday. Children look forward to the Easter Bunny hiding candy and eggs for them to find, but there are other great games and activities that they will enjoy.

This article will give you some tips for planning the best games for Easter and keeping the kids occupied over the long weekend. These activities should keep you entertained, as well.

The Egg Hunt

The most famous traditional Easter game is the famous Egg Hunt. Anyone can host this traditional game, no matter the size of your house or the weather conditions outside. You don?t need a lot of space to hide eggs, just some creativity. The Egg Hunt should take an hour or less to complete.

The key to the Egg Hunt is to hide the eggs in a way that makes them reasonably easy to find. Place them in spots where kids can discover them, such as under a bed or sofa, in corners, under pillows, or behind the stuffed animals in a child?s room. Hiding eggs behind a teddy bear, or better yet, a stuffed rabbit is great because the eggs will be easy to find and the children won?t have to climb anything. Stuffed toys such as stuffed bunnies or plush tigers aren?t sharp or toxic, and kids will be delighted if they find an egg by their plush friend. Another great hiding place is inside of shoes or slippers. Once again, there is no climbing or sharp edges, but remember where you hide them, in case they aren?t found! Nobody wants to be getting dressed for church or work and find an egg in their shoe the hard way! Remember, the key to any good hiding pace for an egg is safety!

You can hide other items besides just eggs. Try hiding a stuffed bunny somewhere in your home and tell the children that the Easter Bunny left them a special rabbit to play with! Or you can try hiding a basket or baskets filled with chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, and other candy. A few small toys or plush animals in the baskets are sure to be a hit! Another item that would be fun to hide as a present is a stuffed duck or plush baby duckling, if you want more items to hide or just don?t feel like putting a special toy in with the candy. If there are several children participating in the Egg Hunt, you may want to put each child?s name on one of the baskets and tell them that they have to find the basket with their name on it. The children will be less competitive and more likely to work together, plus nobody will feel like they lost the big prize. An Egg Hunt is sure to get your Easter holiday off to a good start.

Easter crafts

Since the Egg Hunt tends to get kids excited and rambunctious, Easter crafts tend to be a good activity to follow that up, since it doesn?t require as much supervision and gives the kids a chance to calm down a bit. It can also give you a little break. Your children can create their own Easter masterpiece with nothing more than some crayons or colored pencils and some paper. You may display a stuffed bunny, some chicks, or some painted eggs for them to draw or let their imaginations run wild.

This arts and crafts activity period can be very structured or very free, depending on the age and interests of the kids involved. You can give them directions on things to draw, such as an Easter egg with baby chicks cracking through or a picture of the Easter Bunny. Using your knowledge of their interests, you may decide to let them draw whatever they like. You could give out prizes for their artwork, such as a stuffed bunny or chick, or plastic eggs filled with candy.

The hunt for eggs and art projects are very traditional, but they can also be very fun. You can make them even more special by adding prizes like a stuffed Easter Bunny or giant chocolate rabbit or some plush chicks to help motivate the children. There are lots of ways to make your Easter holiday one that will give both you and your children fond memories for many years to come. More suggestions are available in part two of this article!
