I Love Touring Florence, Italy - Santa Maria Novella District Hotels

The Florence main train station is known as the Stazione Centrale or Stazione Santa Maria Novella. It is named for a nearby Fourteenth and Fifteenth Century Church on the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. Very close by is the Via dei Tornabuoni, Florence's finest shopping street and believe me, there's a lot of competition in this lovely city. We have personally verified that all hotels listed have an English-language website where you can obtain more information.

The Alessandra is located only a block from the Ponte Vecchio and is also quite close to the Via dei Tornabuoni. But if you are looking for a different sort of shopping experience you will want to visit the the "Straw Market", known as "Il Porcellino" (The Little Pig) where local artisans display their wares including fine leather. The Alessandra is on the second floor of a palace that was built in the early Sixteenth Century. There is a continental breakfast. The hotel has 26 rooms, one suite, and one apartment. Some of the rooms do not have a private bath. The hotel address is Borgo Santi Apostoli 17, Santa Maria Novella.

The Hotel Nuova Italia is a family-run hotel near the train station and the Mercato Centrale (Central Market). Some of its 20 rooms can sleep four or more. They have a dining room and a bar. The hotel address is Via Faenza 26, Santa Maria Novella.

Step into the distant past at the Torre Guelfa which is located in a Palace Tower built entirely from stone in the Thirteenth Century. You might want to sip some fine Tuscany wine from the panoramic terrace and enjoy the spectacular view. There are 24 rooms some of which are triple and two suites. Unlike many of the other hotels they do not offer Internet in the rooms. The hotel address is Borgo Santi Apostoli 8, Santa Maria Novella.

The Beacci Tornabuoni, situated on that great shopping street, is a four-star hotel found in a two Renaissance palaces, the Palazzo Minerbetti and the Palazzo Strozzi del Poeta. There is a beautiful roof garden complete with restaurant open several nights during the summer, a bar, and a reading room Each room is uniquely furnished with century-old antiques. The hotel address is Via Tornabuoni 3, Santa Maria Novella.

The JK Place Hotel has been named one of the 500 best hotels in 2010. It's quite pricey. For example, their top of the line Master Room goes for 1000 Euros a night, which works out to well over $1300. You do get a buffet breakfast, organic tea and coffee and lots, lots more. Their standard room is about one third of that price. The hotel offers 14 doubles and 6 suites. The hotel address is Piazza Santa Maria Novella 7.

Over the years Levi Reiss has authored or co-authored ten books on computers and the Internet but simply prefers drinking fine Italian or other wine, with the right foods. He teaches a variety of computer classes at an Ontario French-language community college. Visit his Italian travel website http://www.travelitalytravel.com which includes information on Italian wine and food.
