Open in the first half of the sixteenth century under Pope Paul III and continued under Julius III. The street is so called because it led to the Spanish Steps. Via Trinitatis assumed its present name of Condotti when Pope Gregory XIII did go underground pipelines Acqua Vergine. According to legend, however, the term "carried out" derived from the Latin "ducti" that is guided, with reference to the soldiers of Agrippa in 19th BC, thirsty, were "led" by a girl (Latin for "Virgo") to the source water, which was given its name of Acqua Vergine.

Today Via dei Condotti is a stop on the most exclusive shopping street of Rome, with luxury boutiques, designer stocks, leather goods and exclusive jewellers. The weekend is especially busy with tourists who like to walk among the window. Among the shops of Via Condotti, you will find Armani, Valentino, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Saviour Ferragamo and many senior prestigious brands worldwide. Before becoming "shopping street", was a meeting point for many writers and intellectuals passing through Rome, the Greek Coffee remains today, the most famous cafe in the capital still a gathering place for politicians, artists and writers!
